The Five Things Alissa-the-Intern Likes Best about Vieques Island

Hola!

Things are going really well here at Weddings in Vieques. I am down to my last few days of this internship which is really sad-summer has gone by way too fast.   Now that I’ve spent over two months on Vieques Island, I’ve had a chance to do and see many things.  Here are my top five!

The landscape – The thing I love the most about Vieques is the land itself.  Not only does Vieques have some of the best beaches in the world, but it also has beautiful vegetation and rolling hills.  There are tons of watersports and other activities that you can do as well, which is something that you and your wedding guests can enjoy together.

The bioluminescent bay – This one could probably go under the “landscape” category, but it’s so amazing that I decided to put it by itself.  If you’ve had a chance to visit the bio bay here, you know how amazing it is and I don’t even have to explain.  If you haven’t had a chance to see it, be sure to take advantage of one of the many bio bay tour options when you’re here.  The bio bay makes Vieques unique, and it’s another thing that wedding guests really enjoy and talk about for years after they
visit.

The people – I have met some really great people while I’ve been in Vieques.  In fact, many of the people I have met will probably be life-long friends of mine. The locals here are generally very friendly and interested in getting to know you.  It’s a very tolerant island too – very gay friendly, which comes in handy for planning commitment ceremonies.  Everyone has been really helpful in making my stay here extremely memorable.

The culture – When you come to Vieques you will find that life, for the most part, is the same as what you’re used to.  However, there are some big cultural differences.  Spanish has a heavy influence on the culture down here, but there is also a nice mix of many cultures.  If you’re out and about in Vieques you will hear salsa music one minute, reggae the next, and country the next. There are people here from all over the world and they are represented in the food, accommodations, music and  general character of the island.

The internship atWeddings in Vieques – I have to mention this one because not only do I love
this internship but it has also allowed me to come here and enjoy all of the other things to love about Vieques.  I have had so much fun learning about the company and getting to take part in making people’s weddings beautiful.  The people I have worked with are amazing and I have learned so many things that will stay with me forever.  I am so grateful and lucky to have worked for Weddings in Vieques… and I might come back next summer.

That’s all for now. There are many other things to love about Vieques but those are things you’ll just have to come down here to discover for yourself!
