Christmas Advice Nugget #16 — Don’t Try to Save the Top of Your Wedding Cake when You Have a Tropical Island Wedding

Hello Everybody!

You would think this one goes without saying, right?  But it doesn’t.  In fact, I was one of those brides who thought she would transport her cake top.  I even brought my own box.  What a joke!  You can’t take your cake top home with you from a destination wedding on a Caribbean island.

Oh, you can try.  You can haul it along on your honeymoon, shoving it in mini-bar fridges along the way.  But you’re not going to end up eating it and it’s not going to make its way all the way back home to your freezer, if that’s what you had in mind.  Chances are you’ll get it taken away from you going through Customs, Agricultura or TSA, even if you do make it as far as the airport with the cake.

If you absolutely positively want to do it, the only way to do it is to get a cooler like Omaha Steaks uses to ship meat and ice packs.  Put it in a cake box and then put the box in the cooler.  Completely surround the box with ice packs.  Seal box and ship overnight delivery.  Make sure there’s somebody home on the other end to receive it when it arrives!

Until next time, happy wedding planning from Weddings in Vieques and Weddings in Culebra!
