Top 10 Reasons to Have a Caribbean Destination Wedding on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico
Hi Everybody!
I can’t believe this weekend is already over. I spent most of it getting my household back in order before all of the January brides and their guests start arriving. This coming week is one of my least favorite weeks of the year because it’s not the holidays anymore back in the states and all of my clients expect me to be working. However, the Christmas holidays don’t end until January 11th down here this year. We celebrate Three King’s Day on January 6th in a bigger way than Christmas in Puerto Rico, so nobody goes back to work until two days after that. This year, Three King’s falls on a Wednesday, so nobody is going back to work until the following Monday. Except for me. I’ll be in my office tomorrow morning because my clients don’t live in Puerto Rico… Yes, I am pouting. But enough of that, here we go with today’s blog — the top ten reasons you should get married in Vieques!
1) Vieques is a part of Puerto Rico, although it’s a separate island. Because Puerto Rico is a part of the United States, neither you nor any of your guests need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico from the United States — just a driver’s license.
2) Vieques is accessible from San Juan either by puddle jumper airplane or ferry. The airplane ride is only 20 minutes but the ferry only costs $2/person. You and your guests determine what’s best for your own budgets and schedules.
3) Vieques was named “Best Island in the Caribbean” by the readers of Travel & Leisure magazine in 2009.
4) Most of your wedding guests have never been to Vieques so you’re giving them a much more unique experience than Mexico or Hawaii or the Bahamas.
5) Vieques Island has the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world — and there aren’t that many left remaining. We can set up a private tour of the bio-bay for your group on an electric pontoon boat, or you can kayak it with a group. Everybody gets to jump in the sparkling waters and watch their movement turn the water electric colors.
6) Wild Paso Fino horses roaming, no stoplights and pristine beaches give the island a deserted feeling you can’t get on any of the big commercialized island. There’s nobody trying to sell you crappy beach bags or asking to braid your hair on any of the beaches in Vieques.
7) Reasonably-prices wedding services — getting married on Vieques is almost half as expensive as getting married on the big island of Puerto Rico, or on our little sister island Culebra. The cost of accommodations for your guests is generally less expensive too — especially if you get married in the off-season of May through November.
Much less expensive airfare for your guests who will be attending. Flying to San Juan is no big deal — it’s when you’re going to other islands farther down the chain that it gets pricey.
9) Having a destination wedding will discourage those people who aren’t as close to you from expecting a wedding invitation. And it will keep the number of guests at a reasonable level because not everybody can afford to travel in this economy.
10) Get married in Vieques so that you can work with the professional destination wedding planners at Weddings in Vieques. We have a solid roster of happy former clients to refer you to — don’t take your chance of somebody who just dabbles in wedding planning or is trying to learn the ropes. Work with a solidly professional wedding planner who has a good reputation with her happy clients.
Until next time, happy wedding planning from Weddings in Vieques and Weddings in Culebra. I’ll need to tackle Culebra’s Top Ten in one of my future blogs!
