Celebrate Your Wedding Anniversary Every Month — And Put Your Wedding Date in His Ring

August 28th, 2009 Sandy Malone

Happy Friday!

Today was a gorgeous day here in Vieques but I didn’t have time for the beach (sigh).  I spent the afternoon with Larry and Fernando, clients who are visiting the island this week a year ahead of their commitment ceremony next November.  They are hilarious and I’m so excited I got to meet them in person.  Now I know which guy is going to be my groomzilla!  After lunch, I sent them to the beach — I always want to make sure that clients have a true vacation when they come down on a pre-planning jaunt.  Helps them to fall in love with the island, if they haven’t already.  There’s a lot to fall in love with here.

Unfortunately, we’ve been so busy lately that we haven’t had much time to appreciate this gorgeous island we live on.  We did a crazy number of weddings in four months this summer, and we’re still in recovery.  Next week, we’re leaving on vacation for a few weeks.  We’re going to visit friends, catch up on rest, and celebrate our own 5th wedding anniversary.  Isn’t it sad that in order to vacation, we have to leave our tropical island?  Anyway, our upcoming wedding anniversary inspired today’s blog.  Five years together and I still love Bill a little bit more every day.   What’s the secret?  Appreciate each other.  And celebrate your anniversary every month.

Keep the Wedding Rehearsal Short and Sweet — your friends will thank you

August 28th, 2009 Sandy Malone

Hi folks!

I had a particularly long wedding rehearsal this month that reminded me I’ve been meaning to blog about wedding rehearsals — the planning, purpose and etiquette of the whole thing.  First things first — do you need to have a wedding rehearsal for your Caribbean destination wedding?

An Affair to Remember — Jennifer and Bryan’s Island Festivities at Caribbean Dacha

August 24th, 2009 Sandy Malone

Happy Monday Friends!

So last weekend was the first weekend I’ve had off in a very, very long time.  Off from weddings that is — if you know me, you know I was working anyway.  But not too hard. :)  Bill and I spent yesterday afternoon on the beach at Sun Bay, working on our sorry tans before we head home to visit everybody next week.  But I’ve promised myself that before I head out on vacation, I’m going to finish up all the wedding reviews that I haven’t had time to do this summer.  Starting with the most recent — Jennifer Heselmeyer and Bryan Barnhouse were married in a romantic waterfront ceremony on Sunday, August 16th!

Petals on the Wind — Danielle and Johnathan’s Elegant Purple Caribbean Destination Wedding Weekend in Vieques

August 22nd, 2009 Sandy Malone

Hola Mis Novias y Novios!

Danielle Robles and Johnathan Peterson were married one week ago, on Saturday, August 15th, in a beautiful wedding ceremony on Sun Bay here on Vieques Island.  This was one of the more complicated wedding weekends we’ve done this summer because Danielle and John left no detail unchecked.  They had four full days of events with lots of little details.  But they were a lot of fun to work with and the look on Danielle’s face when she finally saw her wedding venue in person made it all very much worth the effort!

Go Big Red!!! Nebraskans Nicole and Santiago Tie the Knot on Vieques Island

August 22nd, 2009 Sandy Malone

Happy Saturday!

This is the first weekend that I haven’t had destination weddings (sometimes more than one) in 22 weeks.  Yeeha!  Woohoo!  Party time!  So, in addition to taking my butt to the beach for a few hours with my wonderful husband, I’m going to try to get caught up on blogging about all of the beautiful weddings we’ve done in the past two weeks.

Nicole Kolm and Santiago Valdivia were married just before sunset on Monte Santo Playa on Friday, August 7th.  The bride wore an elegant white gown with rhinestones on the bodice and carried a bouquet of ivory Vandella roses and pink oriental lilies, and she was escorted down the aisle by her father to Somewhere Over the Rainbowon the eukelele.  It was muy romantico and everybody had tears in their eyes as the couple, who were high school sweethearts, took their vows.

A Whimsical Pagan Wedding on Playa Sun Bay for Terri and Guillain

August 4th, 2009 Sandy Malone

Hi Everybody!

Terri and Guillain’s sunset wedding on Sun Bay on August 1st was beautiful — but it was a different kind of wedding ceremony than what we usually do here at Weddings in Vieques.  The bride was Jewish, the groom was Puerto Rican, and they are both practicing Wiccans who chose to have a pagan ceremony for their wedding.  I didn’t find out about this little detail until a few weeks ago, but hey, we rolled with it.   Just one more kind of wedding that Weddings in Vieques can now claim to have experience planning!

Wedding on Horseback Is a Turkish Delight on Vieques Island

August 4th, 2009 Sandy Malone

Hola Mis Novias!

Pamela Wolford and Ibrahim “Ibo” Beyazit were married at sunset on Sun Bay on Friday, July 31st.  The bride wore an absolutely amazing chiffon gown with layers and layers of skirts that billowed in the breeze as she made her entrance at the ceremony on horseback.  She carried a cascading bouquet of pink, purple, orange and yellow mokara orchids and was escorted by her older brother, Ken.  She looked like the picture from the cover of a romance novel with the breeze swirling her skirts around the horse and her blond hair blowing in the breeze.
