What a fantastic wedding weekend! Sara Patterson and Mario Hernandez are now Senor y Senora Mario y Sara Hernandez — or at least that’s how we introduced them when they made their grand entrance at their wedding reception last night!
Hola Brides and Grooms!
Today was sooo busy — Sara Patterson and Mario Hernandez are getting married tomorrow afternoon and today was their beach party. It was a lot of fun — excellent food and fabulous rum punch! The guests were having a fantastic time when I bailed out on it halfway through and left my crew to finish up the party. I headed home early to start working on Sara’s flowers because I knew I had a challenge ahead of me. I’ve never worked with peonies or ranunculus in the Caribbean before, but my wholesaler told me they would be fine. She lied. When the flowers arrived yesterday afternoon, the peonies were already open wide. Not a good sign. The orange ranunculus were looking pretty darned sad too, but I hoped water would perk them up. Unfortunately, that was not to be. Fortunately, Sara had lots of different flowers in her decor scheme so I had enough other things to substitute and make it all turn out right, but I’m really sad about the disastrous results of the peonies and ranunculus. That inspired tonight’s blog topic — choosing the right flowers for a wedding in the Caribbean.

It’s a busy week here at Weddings in Vieques! Karla Sullivan and Shawn Plassmann were married at sunset yesterday on the beach at Sun Bay, and Sara Patterson and Mario Hernandez arrived this afternoon for the beginning of their own destination wedding weekend. But let’s talk about Karla and Shawn right now – Tuesday was their big day!

I’ve been really busy juggling my spring clients lately — lots of weddings in April, May and June. Some of the girls are doing great, have their to-do lists accomplished, and are ready to start packing. But there are a few girls who are teetering on the edge of sanity. To their grooms, I say hold on boys, it’s going to be a bumpy ride for the next few weeks. To the brides who are suffering pre-wedding syndrome angst, I have some tips to help manage the stress.

Better late than never (and yes, I know I’m very late) — it’s time for a review of Bethany and Tim’s gorgeous Caribbean destination wedding here on Vieques on March 14th. My apologies to the bride and groom for not posting this sooner. After their wedding, we had some community obligations to tackle that have been taking up entirely too much of my time. But as one of the largest employers on this island and with weddings being one of the biggest tourist traps (most of your guests never would have seen Vieques if they didn’t come down here for your wedding), we have an obligation to support the new mayor’s efforts here on Vieques and be good stewards of the island. So thank you for cutting me some blogging slack. Now let’s talk about Bethany and Tim’s incredibly beautiful wedding in March!
