Hola Mis Novios y Mis Novias!
We’re having a busy weekend here, with wedding guests for Stephanie and Edward’s big day here on Vieques coming from destinations as far as London and the West Coast. The bride and groom and their families arrived on Wednesday, and the rest of their guests descended on us yesterday afternoon. Last night, we had a fantastic welcome party at the Coqui Fire Cafe for everybody and I know they had a great time. The groom and his friends had to be hurting this morning when they left on their fishing charter at 6:30 am. But they got there! Anyway, I was inspired to write today’s blog on Wednesday afternoon as I frantically dialed rental car companies to track down an extra Jeep for a guest who hadn’t made a reservation in advance. Getting around Vieques and Culebra Islands isn’t easy, and it really does require that every wedding guest have a designated seat in a rental car throughout the weekend.

Hello everybody!
It is absolutely gorgeous here today. Sunny and breezy, with some rain early this morning to clean the air and tamp down the dust on the roads out to our beautiful beaches. It’s perfect weather to greet our bride and groom, due to arrive this afternoon, for their destination wedding weekend. Stephanie Sharis and Edward Witt will be married on Sun Bay on Saturday afternoon before a group of their family and friends. I can’t wait to finally meet them face-to-face, I’ve been working closely with Stephanie for months and I feel like I’m finally meeting a character out of a book I’ve read. But on to current business! Today’s topic is about choosing your caterer. Let’s face it — your wedding reception catering is probably the biggest number in your budget so you need to tackle it early!

Happy Sunday!
Today is Bill’s birthday so I have to keep this relatively brief so I can finish getting everything together for our beach picnic with friends. We’re going out to Red Beach to barbecue — amazing how we do this stuff for other people every wedding weekend but it always seems like so much more work when we do it for ourselves! But before I head out to the beach, I need to stop being delinquent and tell you guys all about our first-ever sunrise wedding last week!

Hola Readers!
Last week just about kicked my butt with three weddings in five days, so you’ll have to forgive the delayed postings and the lack of blogging lately. I just haven’t had time and my first priority is always my clients. But I have a little breather for the next couple of days (no break because I have to work my butt off for other clients) in between weddings so I’m going to do my best to get caught up! Let’s start with Michele and Jose’s beautiful wedding on Saturday, January 17th!

Happy Sunday!
It was a gorgeous day today and Bill and I spent the afternoon on Blue Beach with Leif and Chad, one of the couples whose wedding we planned last spring. They were back on the island for a visit and it was a lot of fun to catch up and hear all about how married life is treating them. It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend — yesterday afternoon, Nicole Jerner and Andrew Carlson were married on Sun Bay Beach here in Vieques!

Hello Everybody!
It’s been a very busy week here at Weddings in Vieques! We’ve got five weddings this month, beginning with Nicole Jerner and Andrew Carlson from New York tomorrow at sunset. They’re here with just their parents for a very simple, elegant ceremony and wedding dinner, but they planned a really great week for everybody in much the same way as you would for a larger group of guests. Last night they did a private kayak tour of the bio-bay, and tonight they went on a horseback trail ride at sunset. Tomorrow’s the big day, so Nicole will be busy getting beautiful while Andrew has the day to relax. It’s a wonderful way to get married. I’ve done a lot of free initial consultations this week with brides who want to have a destination wedding, but are dealing with smaller budgets because of the economy. Brides and grooms who would really like to host big Caribbean destination weddings in Vieques are dealing with budgets that just can’t support the visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads. With that said, for many of them, getting married at home isn’t an option because hosting a larger wedding in any major US city is more expensive than getting married in Vieques. So what’s a bride to do?

Hello Everybody!
It is a fabulous day here on Vieques and I am bummed out that I’m going to be spending it doing inventory in the Conex box where we store all our wedding supplies. But January is a busy month and I need to make sure I’m prepared as we head into a very popular wedding season! Today’s blog is going to be brief and funny because I’m meeting my assistants Candy and Ashley down at the storage facility in a few minutes, but it’s about a word that makes me laugh, groan and cringe on a regular basis. “Simple.” Let me give you a few examples.

Happy New Year Everybody!
I welcomed 2009 before any of you last night because we’re in the Atlantic time zone! If I were a really smart woman, I would have stayed home and gotten a good night’s sleep so I could start 2009 fresh and perky. Unfortunately, I’m a party girl at heart (of course I am — I plan parties for a living, don’t I?) so I had to do it up right with my friends. We had an amazing dinner at El Quenepo, and then went to the New Year’s parties at Al’s Mar Azul and the new Kama nightclub. It was good to be with a lot of old and new friends at midnight at Al’s (he was all dressed up — wearing his tuxedo t-shirt for the occasion). And the party rocked on all night at Kama. We left at 4 am. And yes, I confess, Bill had to drag me out the door after they started playing “Copa Cabana” as we were leaving. It wasn’t my fault — I blame it entirely on the Captain. Captain Morgan, that is. Anyway, the first lesson I learned for the New Year is that I’m not as young as I used to be. God, that’s depressing. But the good news is that I’m older and wiser and more experienced than I was a year ago, and that’s better for me and for my clients. Before we get back into the heavy topics in my next blog, let’s revisit some lessons I learned in 2008. Remember my motto — learn from MY mistakes, don’t repeat them.
