A “Bird’s Eye View” of Alison and Tom’s Destination Wedding in Vieques

October 27th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Everybody!

Alison Wilson and Tom Vincent were married on the beach at Sun Bay on Saturday afternoon under clear blue skies and with strains of an acoustic guitar trio filling the air with Puerto Rican love songs.  Their guests came from as far as London and Australia to help celebrate their wedding day with a destination wedding on Vieques Island.

Plan Ahead to Meet with an Experienced Destination Wedding Planner

October 25th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Everybody!

It’s a busy weekend in Vieques for me because Alison Wilson and Tom Vincent are getting married on the beach at Sun Bay in about two hours!  I’m just home to shower and change before I go back and set up centerpieces.  But I was inspired to write a quick blog while I had a minute (and because I couldn’t log into online backgammon — my secret addiction — for some reason).  Today’s topic — call ahead to schedule a meeting with the local wedding planner if you go to visit your destination wedding island!

Destination Wediquette — Who Gets Invited to What at Your Caribbean Destination Wedding

October 19th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Dear Readers,

Today, I’m going to tackle one of the most frequently asked questions by clients — when you’re having a destination wedding, what are the rules about who is invited to what?  Really, it’s simple.  If you’re having a destination wedding on a Caribbean island and asking all of your loved ones to travel a great distance to celebrate your special day, everybody is invited to everything!

Much Ado About Nothing — Hurricane Omar Misses Vieques!

October 16th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi Folks!

Just a quick blog today to let everybody know that Vieques survived Hurricane Omar unscathed.  He went just a few degrees too far to the east to hit us because he had a super tiny eyewall.  Even St. Croix got off pretty easy, and Omar passed over the eastern tip of their island.  If it had been a big hurricane like Ike earlier this year, or Hurricane Ivan back in 2004, then we would have been in big trouble.  But Mother Nature helped us out and today you wouldn’t know we were expecting a hurricane yesterday if not for all the houses that still have hurricane shutters up!

10 Reasons Destination Weddings Are Less Expensive Than Getting Married at Home

October 8th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi Everybody!

I thought about this topic last night while I was watching the presidential debate.  Everybody is sooo focused on the economy right now, and rightly so.  But one of my brides expressed concern that maybe she should have had her wedding back in the states after all now that people are feeling a pinch, and so we ran the numbers to compare what her destination wedding in Vieques was costing her and her guests compared to what it would have cost if she had gotten married in New York.  Turns out, Vieques is a lot cheaper.  Here’s why:

Destination Baby Showers — the Newest Trend in Spoiling Your Girlfriends Rotten

October 7th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi Everybody!

Last weekend was a total blast for me.  I love planning weddings for all of my clients, but it’s even more fun to plan a special event for somebody I love.  One of my best friends, Deedee Lofft, is having her first baby in January and she’ll be having a couple of baby showers back home in Washington, DC, but we decided to kick things off with a destination baby shower for some of her closest friends in Vieques.  What a blast!

Inappropriate Destination Wedding Guest Attire - a Rant

October 6th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi there!

I’ve been holding this one in for quite a long while now, out of respect for the brides who have been victims of this horrible crime.  The Crime?  Guests who dress inappropriately at destination weddings and receptions.  But it’s a serious topic, folks.  And it needs to be addressed.  As I sit here writing this, I’ve just finished looking at pictures from several different weddings because I’m about 30 weddings behind in posting photos.  And there was one thing I saw in several wedding pictures that I really didn’t like.
