Barefoot or Not Barefoot? The Beach Wedding Shoe Dilemma Unmasked

August 25th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Mis Amigos!

We finally got some rain here — much needed!  I’m hoping it will green up the lawn at the villa where this weekend’s wedding is being held.  Everything here has been looking desperately thirsty lately!  Anyway, the lousy weather kept me chained to my desk all day and I feel the need for some levity.  So let’s talk about the trials and tribulations of what to wear on your footsies if you’re getting married on the beach.

Things You Can and Cannot Do Yourself for Your Destination Wedding Weekend

August 24th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hello Everybody –

Today’s topic was inspired by a potential client who called me last week with all the best intentions.  Her family happens to be blessed with several chefs — too bad we don’t all have a couple professional chefs hanging around — and she wanted to put them to work during her wedding weekend.  It’s not the first time I’ve heard something like this from somebody planning a destination wedding weekend.  Sometimes it’s sentimental (like in this bride’s case), and sometimes the couples are trying to save money by harnessing the talents of their in-house chef.  Unfortunately, Vieques isn’t the best place in the world to try to bring your own professionals.

First, let’s discuss what kind of services CAN be done by your friends and family.

How Far Can You Cut the Budget? 10 Things You Must Have for Your Destination Wedding

August 23rd, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Loyal Readers!

It’s been a busy week on Vieques Island but I’ve been dying to find time to blog — so here I am on Saturday afternoon instead of sitting on a breezy, palm tree-lined beach.  You guys owe me one!!!  Today I want to revisit the horrible, awful, scary, icky topic of wedding budgets.  And more specifically, the things you HAVE TO have versus the things you WANT TO have for your destination wedding weekend on a Caribbean island.

Choosing Accommodations for Destination Wedding Guests

August 19th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi there!

You’ve probably given up on me by now — I just haven’t had time to blog lately!  Clearly, I need to do another pre-announced topic list that forces me to write everyday.  It’s not that I don’t want to, but we get pretty busy down here.  This August we’ve already done three weddings, and now we’ve got a big one coming up on Labor Day weekend.  And I’ve been very busy helping all of my 2009 and 2010 clients choose wedding venues and accommodations for the past few weeks.  Which brings us to today’s topic — where to put your wedding guests when you come to a Caribbean island to get married.

The Rules Apply to Everyone, Even the Bride and Groom - A Rant

August 8th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi there!

I’ve been waiting and waiting to take on today’s topic because I wanted to leave enough time after the wedding so that I wouldn’t give away which couple inspired today’s rant.  I think I’m in the clear now, but if they read it and see themselves in it, maybe they’ll have learned something about life.  When you get married, it’s true that it’s your “big day.”  But that doesn’t make you exempt from having to behave like a nice person to everybody you come in contact with during your wedding weekend.  And you’re still subject to all the same laws, rules and general standards of decency that apply to everyday life.

The Wedding Tug O’War — Wedding Couple versus Well-Intentioned Parents

August 7th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi there everybody!

It’s a beautiful morning in Vieques and I’m up bright and early to go pick up Giselle and Leigh at the airport so we can get their marriage license paperwork done this morning.  They’re eloping — just the two of them — and it’s going to be a busy day getting them ready for their ceremony tomorrow.  But despite the time crunch, I wanted to write a quick blog entry about a somewhat difficult topic.  The question of who should hire the wedding planner.

The Skies Cleared Just in Time for Kiley and Justin’s Sunset Destination Wedding Ceremony

August 4th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hi Everybody!

Saturday’s wedding was a close one.  The much-needed rain we’ve all been praying for down here in Vieques, hit with a vengeance on Friday evening and continued most of Saturday afternoon.  We had a Plan B all lined up just in case we couldn’t get away with a beach ceremony, but the skies cleared at 4 pm and the sun peeked out just in time for Kiley Hill and Justin Green’s 5 pm sunset wedding ceremony on Playa Sun Bay on Saturday, August 2nd.

Choosing Accommodations for Your Destination Wedding Weekend During Hurricane Season — Food for Thought

August 2nd, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Everybody!

As my husband and I were delivering the bride and groom’s welcome basket for a wedding this weekend to the accommodations the couple had selected, it occurred to me that my clients need to be more careful than usual when making reservations during hurricane season.  I thought I’d share a few ideas about this with you in the hopes that it will save you a headache down the road.
