Creative Alternatives to the Traditional Boring Guest Book

February 28th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Mis Novias y Novios!

I admit it.  I haven’t looked at my guest book from my wedding since the day I got back from my honeymoon.  And I’m not even sure I looked very closely at it then.  We used the very traditional guestbook style and there’s absolutely nothing interesting about it.  Now that I’m a wedding planner and I know how many other cute ways you can do a guest book, I really regret not having done something more creative with mine.

Hair, Makeup and Perfume for Your Caribbean Destination Wedding

February 27th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hey there!

Chaos reigns supreme in my house today because we’re packing to head up to New York to attend a friend’s wedding — as guests!  But I was so bad about blogging last week that I wanted to pop off something quick to my readers today to make up for my slacking.  Let’s talk about wedding hair and makeup today — a very important topic that is often neglected.

Never Do Today What You Could Procrastinate About Until Tomorrow — Unless You’re Having a Caribbean Destination Wedding!

February 26th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Brides and Grooms!

I’m in the organizing stage today, as I always am after a big wedding.  We have a fabulous storage room, but everything fits in its place.  When we pull it all out for a big destination wedding weekend, it takes a couple of days to put it all back.  And as always, I have more than I started out with because the bride donated her glass cylinders to my cache of wedding supplies to share with future brides.  The giant mess in my living room inspired me to write about my system of organizing, packing and shipping things that I ask my clients to use in order to get everything we need down here before the wedding in a stress-free manner.

Pennywise and Pound Foolish — When Spending $100 Can Save You Thousands in Pain and Suffering

February 25th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hello there!

It was an unbelievably pretty day here and but I didn’t make it to the beach because I’m in recovery from last weekend’s wedding.  The bride and groom were married on Saturday, February 23rd in a sunset beach ceremony on Sun Bay, followed by a gorgeous reception at a villa in Martineau Bay.  I’ll tell you more about it before I jump into today’s topic — bad spending decisions.

Seated or Buffet or Cocktail-Style Food Stations? How to Pick the Best Reception Format for Your Guests

February 18th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hello everybody!

I had a meeting with the caterer the other day for a wedding I’m planning in April.  We did a site survey, which basically means we walked the property and tried to figure out the best way to set everything up.  We had been planning to do a loosey-goosey cocktail-style buffet reception, but this particular venue (with this particular number of guests) really lends itself better to a seated dinner.  So I called the bride and told her the caterer’s ideas and we’re making the suggested changes.

Practicing for Your First Dance Together at Your Destination Wedding — It’s Well Worth the Effort

February 17th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hola Readers!

I’m sorry I haven’t been blogging as often — it’s been busy here.  I have a wedding couple on the island doing a pre-planning trip, and a big wedding next weekend that’s sucking up most of my time.  Okay, yeah, I’m being a little lazy after that one-blog-a-day resolution in January that just about kicked my butt.  But I’m back, and I’ll try to be more reliable!  Let’s talk about your first dance today!

Is It Cost-Effective to Import Your Vendors for Your Destination Wedding?

February 12th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Hey there Brides and Grooms!

It’s a gorgeous day here in Vieques and I’d really rather be on the beach, but instead I’ve got to work.  Bummer!  Am headed off to the demographic office to get copies of Meg and Jason’s marriage license to send them, and then I’m on a serious shopping mission for my February 23rd wedding.  But before I run off to take care of all that, I wanted to write a blog entry about whether you should bring your photographer, hairdresser, makeup artist, musicians, or anybody else with you for your wedding rather than hiring somebody local to do the job.  This one is dedicated to my sweet bride Brianna (Nov. 2009) who inspired me this morning.

Can You Plan a Country Club Wedding on a Tropical Island?

February 11th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Happy Monday!

So you want to have the wedding of your dreams on a Caribbean island?  You envision palm trees blowing in the breeze, aquamarine waves lapping at the sand, and you in a formal designer wedding gown wearing your great-grandmother’s cathedral length veil walking down an aisle runner on the sand to the strains of a string quartet.  What’s wrong with this picture?  If you’re getting married at home at your country club, you can find a way to bring some Caribbean island elements into your wedding decor.  But it’s pretty hard to bring a country club wedding to the Caribbean and see it unfold in the same way you pictured it at home.

Don’t Wait til the Last Minute to Do Things You Can Do Now!

February 8th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Happy Friday Everybody!

I have some very busy brides and grooms on my client list.  Smart people with difficult jobs who have hired me as their wedding planner because they want to have a beautiful destination wedding in the Caribbean but don’t have the time to plan all the little details themselves.  It’s my job to plan their weddings and make it as easy as possible for them, but during the planning process there are still a few things that they have to do themselves.  Most of these things can be done well in advance (months ahead in some cases) and I feel so sorry for clients who put it all off to the last minute and have to scramble the last few weeks before their weddings to get it all done.

How to Handle Those Tacky Guests Who Don’t RSVP

February 7th, 2008 Sandy Malone

Good Morning!

I had another topic for today, but changed my mind after dealing with two wedding couples last night who are having the same hard time with getting in those last few RSVPs from tacky wedding guests who were completely oblivious to the deadline on it and have not been responding to emails from the wedding couple trying to get answers.  So what do we do about those people?
